In order to be able to compete in the 1997 FIA GT Championship, Mercedes-Benz created the CLK GTR. Powered by a mid-mounted 6.9L V12 engine, the GTR was a race car for the road, featuring very little to connect it with its namesake, the Mercedes-Benz CLK. Extremely limited in production, only 20 coupes, 6 roadsters, and 2 prototypes were made.
